# Credit costs, tool by tool.

Each Herofab tool costs a fixed number of credits per image, from 2 credits to 5 credits; 4K output adds one credit. One credit costs $0.04 to $0.12 before tax depending on the plan or credit pack, credits are charged only when an image is delivered, and a failed job returns them.

Costs come from the tool catalogue that the app and the API read (packages/tools/catalog.py); this table is rebuilt from it on every site build. Last changed 6 November 2026.

## Credits per image

The jewelry and eyewear studios run on virtual try-on and cost the same; the packshot studio runs on the product studio.

## What one credit costs

Plans renew monthly; credit packs are a one-time payment. Prices are in US dollars before tax.

## When credits are held, charged and returned

- Credits are held when a job is created and charged only when its image is delivered.
- A job that fails, is refused by the automatic checks or is cancelled returns its credits.
- A batch is all or nothing: if the credits do not cover every job, no job is created.
- In a chain, a step that has delivered its image is charged; if a later step fails, the steps after it are cancelled and their credits returned.
- Plan credits renew each billing period and do not roll over; they are spent before pack credits.
- Credit packs never expire.
- 20 credits are given once at sign-up, without a card; images made with them carry a watermark.

## Credit questions

**Does a failed image cost credits on Herofab?**

No. Credits are held when the job starts and charged only when the image is delivered; a job that fails or is cancelled returns them.

**What costs extra?**

4K output adds one credit to tools that offer it, and a fourfold upscale adds one credit to the upscale. Downloading an image in another marketplace size costs nothing.

**Do unused credits carry over to the next month?**

Plan credits renew each billing period and do not roll over. Credit packs never expire.
